As a researcher in the field of Anatomy and Cell Biology with specialty in diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular research, Dr Komolafe investigated the ameliorative effects of plants extracts on cardiovascular structures and regeneration of pancreatic beta cells caused by diabetic induction. This has further broadened the scope of reducing diabetic complication through trado-medical research which was partly sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation of New York in 2011.

Lots of this research has gone a long way in reducing cost of managing diabetes that would have been incurred if anti diabetic drugs was to be employed. Also, this research has given the pharmaceutical companies the raw materials to develop a more potent and cost effective drugs in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Dr Komolafe was invited by the University of Pretoria and Tshwane University of Technology South Africa for training in Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis in 2012. She also visited University of Cambridge, United Kingdom for a self-sponsored workshop on Tissue culture Techniques organised be SIGMA in 2012. In April 2013, she was appointed as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Kwazulu-Natal from 1st October 2013-30th September 2014 with the research on Pre-enclampsia among South Africa women.
