Professor Adesunkanmi was born at Ila-Orangun, Osun State in 1956. He attended Ila Grammar School, Ila between 1969-1973 and Federal School School of Arts and Science, Victorial Island Lagos, between 1974 and 1977. He was admitted to University of Ibadan in 1977 where he had M.B.B. S in 1982. He had his postgraduate training in General Surgery at the University College hospital, Ibadan between 1986 and1991. He became a fellow of the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria in 1992, and was appointed Lecturer 1 in General Surgery at the Obafemi Awolowo University in1992. With dedicated service, research output, effective teaching and clinical services he rose to become a professor of Surgery in 2003.

Prof. Adesunkanmi is diligent in teaching and currently teaches principles and practice of medicine (CLI 400), alimentary system (CLI 403), trauma (CLI 408), and principle of Surgery (CLI 603). He has over 75 publications in reputable local and international journals and he is an examiner at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.  His past administrative positions in the University include past headship of the Surgery Department and Vice Dean, faculty of Clinical Sciences.
