Department of Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics was created from the Department of Physiological Sciences following the recommendation of the accreditation Panel of The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to the University Administration on 4th October 2007. It was formally inaugurated in December 2010 by the University Governing Council.
Dr K.D.S Bamitale, a Senior Lecturer in the department was appointed the pioneer Acting Head on the 1st February 2011 till date to see to the general administration, organization of research and teaching of Pharmacology to Medical Students in the College of Health Sciences.
The department has since been making progress tremendously in the area of teaching and research in the field of General, Basic and Clinical Pharmacology.
The Scope of teaching embraces preclinical general and systemic pharmacology to Medical and Dental Students; Clinical Pharmacology to final year B.Pharm degree students and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics to Clinical Medical and Dental Students.
Efforts are been made to recruit appropriate cadres of academic, technical and administrative staff to match with the increasing role of the department in the College. The department is also working with the relevant administrative organ to put the necessary infrastructures in place.
